Ikorodu City Thrash Niger Tornadoes To Reach 50th Goal Mark

Ikorodu City reached the 50th goal mark in the Nigeria Premier Football League with a win over Niger Tornadoes on Sunday.

The Oga Boys dispatched Katsina United without breaking a sweat at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena as they continue to impress in their debut season in the league.

Cole Ayomide bagged a brace, while Shola Adelani also scored in the 3-0 win over the visitors.

Shola Adelani’s goal took the tally of the Oga Boys to 50 for the season while he recorded his 11th.

Ikorodu City have scored the most goals in the league -51 after 33 matches.

The league debutants are also pushing for a slot on the continent as they occupy the fourth spot with 52 points.

Nurudeen Aweroro’s men will hope to maintain their grip on the last continental spot with five matches left before the season ends.

Meanwhile, Remo Stars failed to increase their lead on top of the log as the Sky Blue Stars were held to a goalless draw at home by Katsina United. Rivers United, in second place also suffered a setback with a two-nil loss away Abia Warriors.

Nevertheless, Remo Stars remain on top of the log with 62 points after 33 matches while Rivers United are in second place with 55 points. A point separates Abia Warriors, 53 and Ikorodu City, 52 who occupy the third and fourth spot respectively.

Super Eagles erstwhile captain, Ahmed Musa ended his long goal drought as he scored the opener in Kano Pillars’ 2-0 won over Lobi Stars.

The loss confirmed Lobi Stars’ relegation from the Nigeria Premier Football League.
