The coach of Nigeria’s men’s senior national team. Jose Peseiro has agreed a contract extension with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to continue as the manager of the team.
Jose Peseiro’s contract extension comes two months after the expiration of his initial two-year contact in June. The former Venezuela national team manager was hired after the Super Eagles failed to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The 63-year-old coach has managed 10 games with the Super Eagles and he has balanced record of 5 wins and 5 losses.
According to Nigerian football expert, Adepoju Tobi Samuel, the Portuguese manager agreed to take a pay cut to continue as the coach of the Super Eagles.
The new contract also stipulates that Peseiro will be in charge of Super Eagles second team (CHAN Eagles) and a semi-final target has been set ahead of the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote D’Ivoire.
Nigeria has already qualified for the tournament as they top Group A of the qualifiers with 12 points after five games.
Jose Peseiro will look to round off the qualifying series on a good note as the Super Eagles take on Sao Tome and Principe on September 10 in their final group game at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
