Just In: ASUU suspends nine-month-old strike, says members will embark on another strike if….

‌The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Wednesday, discontinued its strike, putting an end to the industrial action that started since March 2020.

ASUU National President, Biodun Ogunyemi, made the announcement official during a press briefing of the union in Abuja.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, on Tuesday, confirmed to Nigerians that the nine-month-old strike by the varsity lecturers would be called off before the 15th of January, 2021.

Ogunyemi added that the lecturers acknowledged the grievances of the students who have spent the last nine months at home. He said no amount of sacrifice can be considered too much in a bid to get the government to do the right thing and also fulfil its promises.

“No amount of sacrifice would be too much to get the matter resolved as long as the government is consistent with its commitments.”

However, the Union President added that its members won’t hesitate to embark on another strike action if the government fail to honour the agreement they have reached.
