Americans have elected former Senator and Vice-President of the country, Joe Robinette Biden as their 46th President.
The 78-year-old Democrat from Delaware emerged winner of the polls after earning over 270 electoral votes with Pennsylvania – one of the strongholds of President Donald Trump playing a crucial role.
Joe Biden, in a written statement after American mainstream media projected him as the winner, said he is honoured and humbled because of the trust Americans placed in him.
He also added that democracy is the heartbeat of Americans considering the vast number of people that voted during the elections.
In the face of unprecedented obstacles, a record number of Americans voted. Proving once again, that democracy beats deep in the heart of America. We are the United States of America. And there’s nothing we can’t do, if we do it together.
