Nigeria’s Kamaru Usman retained his Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight title with a unanimous decision win over Jorge Masvidal at UFC 251 on Sunday, July 12th.

The fight was short notice for Masvidal as he was a late replacement after Brazilian Gilbert Burns tested positive for the deadly Coronavirus.

This was the first event by the UFC on fight island at Abu Dhabi the capital of the United Arab Emirates.

Masvidal started the fight well connecting with some strikes on Usman who took him down also in the first round.

The second round Usman decided not to strike rather use his wrestlings skills as he started to dominate Masvidal and did so in round three, four and five to retain his title.

Usman had now won 12 straight fights in the UFC and is gradually becoming one of the biggest stars in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).
