Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun joins Scottish side Rangers (photos/video)

Scottish football powerhouse Rangers have announced the signing of Nigerian international defender Leon Balogun on Friday, July 24th.

Balogun joins Rangers on a 1-year deal, and the Scottish club have the option to extend for a further year.

Balogun joins Rangers from Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion after spending time on loan with Championship side Wigan Athletic.

Rangers announced the signing of Balogun through a message on their official Twitter handle that said,  “#RangersFC are today delighted to announce the signing of
@NGSuperEagles international defender @LeonBalogun on a 1-year deal, with Rangers having an option for a further year.”

In a statement of the official Rangers website, manager of the club Liverpool legend Steven Gerard stated that he is pleased with the arrival of Balogun.

He said,  “I am pleased to secure the signature of Leon. He is an experienced center-half who will add strength and depth to our squad.

“His experience in the Premier League as well as his international pedigree strengthens our squad and will assist in the development of our young defenders.

“Leon has just finished a round of competitive fixtures with Wigan so will hit the ground running. He’s a positive and bright character and we are looking forward to his influence around the group”
