A judge has ordered Lionel Messi, the forward for Paris Saint-Germain, to demolish his four-star hotel in Barcelona.
Messi’s 77-bedroom building, according to El Confidencial, does not meet city criteria.
The ‘MiM Sitges’ is near where the 34-year-old used to live while he was a member of the LaLiga team.
Messi’s Majestic Hotel Group operates hotels in Ibiza and Majorca, and he spent £26 million renovating his Barcelona home in 2017.
However, it is believed that Messi purchased the hotel unaware that it had already been ordered demolished due to non-compliance with construction rules by the Sitges Town Hall.
The hotel’s balconies are seen to be overly huge, yet if they are reduced or demolished, the structure may collapse.
Aside from that, the fire emergency plan is said to have fallen short of the authorities’ expectations.
The demolition order was brought to Messi’s attention when a Spanish journalist asked him for comment, which he and his representatives relayed.
The hotel has been hailed for its commitment to sustainability, with 80 percent of the building’s materials being reused or recyclable.
It also features big tanks that collect waste water from each shower, which is subsequently filtered and used in the toilets and to water plants.
