Throwback: Liverpool come back from 3 goals down against AC Milan to win 2005 UEFA Champions League (video)
On May 25, 2005, Liverpool produced the greatest comeback in Champions League’s final history to come back from three goals down to beat AC Milan.
AC Milan went ahead through a goal by Paolo Maldini as early as the 1st minute, Hernan Crespo scored in the 39th and 44th minute to give the Italian side a comfortable three-goal cushion at the half time break.
Steven Gerrard scored a header to pull one back for Liverpool in the 54th minute, Vladimír Šmicer scored the second for Liverpool in the 56th minute to put pressure on AC Milan.
Xabi Alonso rebounded his penalty for Liverpool in the 60th minute as the game at the in front of 69,000 at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium, Istanbul went to extra time and eventually penalties.
Tomasson and Kaka scored their spot-kicks but Serginho, Pirlo, and Shevchenko all missed for AC Milan.
Riise missed for Liverpool while Hamann, Cissé, and Šmicer all scored their spot-kicks for the Reds as they emerged champions
