Damien Tarel, the 28-year-old man who slapped the French President on Tuesday has been sentenced to jail.
Tarel said that several days ahead of Macron’s visit to the region, he had thought about throwing an egg or a cream tart at the president. He confessed that the slap was not premeditated.
He went on to blast the French President as he labeled him to be a symbol of how the country has regressed.
“I think that Macron represents very neatly the decay of our country,” he told the court, according to BFM TV.
“If I had challenged Macron to a duel at sunrise, I doubt he would have responded.”
He went on to reveal that he was angered by the President’s “friendly look”
He was sentenced to an eighteen months jail term but 14 of it will be suspended.
