Manchester United are now favourites to sign highly-rated Dutch midfielder Donny van de Beek form Dutch Champions, Ajax Amsterdam.
Donny van de Beek was initially linked to Real Madrid just before the emergence of COVID-19 and reports had it that he already agreed personal times with Los Blancos then.
However, it failed to materialise as a result of the pandemic which shutdown footballing activities globally between March and June sources say.
The Red Devils, according to sources in the Netherlands, are now in prime position to land the 23-year-old midfielder in a deal expected to be in the region of £40m.
In addition, Manchester United’s manager Ole Gunnar Solksjaer is reported to have personally told Donny Van de Beek that he wants him to help the club contest for major honours this season.
On the flipside, Ronald Koeman, who handed Donny van de Beek his first International cap in 2017, also wants him at Barcelona but apparently, the player is fixated at joining the Red Devils over the Catalan club who are more or less between a hard ground and the deep blue sea with regards to the Messi situation.
The Dutchman was left out of Erik ten Haag’s squad that faced Eintracht Frankfurt today in a pre-season friendly match today which further confirms his imminent departure from the club.
The attacking midfielder with over 200 appearances for Ajax will look to add more firepower to Ole’s creative midfield duo of Pogba and Fernandes as he provided 10 goals and 11 assists in 37 appearances for the Dutch Champions last season.
