According to The Athletic, Newcastle United are looking to hijack Taiwo Awoniyi’s move to newly-promoted Premier League side, Nottingham Forest.
Nottingham Forest, according to reports are close to signing the 24-year-old striker from Union Berlin this summer.
There are strong indications that Awoniyi will move Nottingham Forest, and the recently promoted Premier League team has agreed to pay £17.5 million for his services.
However, the forward has yet to sign with the team, so Nottingham Forest may need to move quickly as it has been reported that a second Premier League club is interested in signing him.
Awoniyi is one of the strikers Newcastle has kept an eye on, and the club’s recruitment team are a fan of his.
Hugo Ekitike’s signing from Reims remains the club’s top priority, but other options have been developed.
And one of the players they could switch for instead of the Reims youth is the Union Berlin forward.
In order to sign Awoniyi this summer, Nottingham Forest is close to concluding a deal and is hoping there won’t be any hitches.
