Ahead of Super Eagles 2022 World Cup qualifying matches against Liberia and Cape Verde, reports have it that the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation have told coach Gernot Rohr to leave Leon Balogun out of the squad.
NFF’s demand is linked to the defender’s outbursts as regards unpaid bonuses, poor welfare, and facilities on social media in July.
Leon Balogun on a football podcast said the players are being owed match bonuses and he also condemned the facilities they use when the team plays their home matches.
However, sources say Gernot Rohr and senior members of the team have declined NFF’s request which resulted in the delay of the list of invited players.
Nigeria will take on Liberia at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos on September 3rd, and Cape Verse Praia four days later without Premier League players in the team due to the United Kingdom’s COVID-19 restrictions.
