NFF Unveils Finidi George As New Super Eagles Coach

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have officially unveiled Finidi George as the new coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

The unveiling ceremony took place at the NFF Secretariat in Abuja on Monday as he was presented to the media and stakeholders.

The ceremony was graced by Minister of Sports Senator John Enoh and expectedly, the president of the federation Musa Gusua as well as its members.

Finidi George, an ex-Super Eagle was presented with the famous jersey number 7 which he wore during his active days as a player.

The 53-year-old represented Nigeria at two FIFA World Cups (1994 and 1998) and four Africa Cup of Nations.

He was part of the Super Eagles team that won Nigeria’s second AFCON trophy at the Tunisia 1994 tournament.

George also had a brilliant career playing in Europe. He won three Erevidisie titles with Ajax Amsterdam between 1994 and 1996. He also won the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Super Cup with the club in 1995.

He went on to play in Spain with Real Betis a year later.

Finidi George will be assisted by former player Daniel Amokachi, and Benjamin James, a youth football coach at Hoffenheim. Benjamin James is a former Shooting Stars player and he also played for the Super Eagles briefly.

Tunji Baruwa will serve as the goalkeeper trainer, Chima Onyeike is the fitness trainer while Mehmet Ozturk is the analyst.

Finidi George signed a one-year deal with an option to extend for a further year based on his performance which be centered on Super Eagles qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and next year’s Africa Cup of Nations.
