Nigeria’s former Minister of Finance and the Economy, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has resumed work today as the new Director-General of the World Trade Organisation.
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, dressed in her traditional Ankara blouse, skirt and head tie was meet with officials of the organisation at the headquarters of organisation in Geneva, Switzerland.
The finance expert becomes the first woman and African to lead the 26-year-old organisation.
As she begins her tenure today, Nzogi Okonjo-Iweala has highlighted some of the key issues she will be addressing on her first day in office.
She revealed that she will be addressing the issue of Covid-19 and how it has affected the global economy, and how the WTO can contribute to solutions, concluding a deal on fisheries negotiation among other issues.
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala added that being the first woman and African only means one thing, she has to produce results.

Her four-year tenure expires on the 1st of March 2025 after which she will be possibly re-elected another term.
