OTD in 2016, Nigeria beat Honduras 3-2 to win bronze medal at Olympic Games (video)
On August 20th, 2016, Nigeria’s U-23 Dream Team defeated their counterparts from Honduras 3-2 to win the Bronze medal in the men’s football event of the 2016 Olympic Games.
Nigeria raced to an early lead through a goal by Umar Sadiq in the 34th minute which they held on to till the halftime break.
Aminu Umar doubled Nigeria’s lead in the 49th minute with a well-taken strike.
Umar Sadiq scored his second of the game in the 56th minute to give Nigeria a three-goal cushion.
Honduras would not give up and pulled one back through Anthony Lozano in the 71st minute.
Marcelo Pereira scored the second for Honduras in the 86th minute to make the game closer.
Nigeria would however hold on for a win in front of 9,091 fans in attendance at Mineirão, Belo Horizonte.
Nigeria also became the first country to win Gold, Silver and Bronze in the men’s Olympic football event.
