Members of the deadly terrorist sect, Boko Haram on Saturday attacked an advanced security team of Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum which led to the death of seven soldiers and two members of the civilian JTF sources told Sahara Reporters.
The security team were attacked by the insurgents on their way to Baga Town in Kukuwa Local Government Area of the State.
The governor who flew by helicopter to the town before the incident is spending two days alongside some government officials to distribute relief materials to the newly-resettled displaced persons.
We were attacked by the gunmen who came with about six trucks and seven motorcycles. We engaged them but they have already destabilised.
“We had no option than to abort the trip and returned to Maiduguri with corpses of the deceased. About seven people died immediately but two of my colleagues (soldiers) died from gunshot injuries when we got back to Maiduguri,” one of the soldiers who survived the attack explained.
This is the third time Governor Babagana Zulum’s convoy will be attacked. There were two other attacks carried out in September in Baga as well.
Reports have that one of the break-away sects from Boko Haram, Islamic State West Africa Province who have a stronghold in the area, is behind the attack.
