Video of the day – Odion Ighalo on target as Nigeria beat Tunisia 1-0 to win the bronze medal at AFCON 2019
On July 17th, 2019, Nigeria beat Tunisia 1-0 to win the third-place play-off at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria lost 2-1 to Algeria in the semifinals while Tunisia lost 1-0 to Senegal in the other semifinal.
The only goal of the game would come in the third minute when Odion Ighalo lashed in a volley.
It was Ighalo’s fifth goal of the tournament which meant he would go on to win the golden boot award.
The second half ended goalless as the Super Eagles of Nigeria picked up the bronze medal in front of 6,340 fans in attendance at the Al Salam Stadium, Cairo, Egypt.
It was the eight-time the Super Eagles of Nigeria would win a bronze medal at the AFCON as they did so in 1976,1978, 1992, 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2010.
