Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey has joined English Premier League side Fulham football club on a four-year deal worth €22.5m from Ajax Amsterdam.

Fulham announced the signing of the 23-year-old on Friday as he becomes the club’s second Summer signing following the arrival of Raul Jimenez from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The former Rangers defender expressed his delight in joining the club and he revealed that he didn’t think twice before accepting to play for the West London club.

Bassey said: “I know how big of a club Fulham is. They always have quality players, they’re playing in the Premier League, the best league in the world, so I didn’t have to think much about it!”

Fulham Tony Khan added: “I’m thrilled to welcome Calvin Bassey to Fulham Football Club!

“He’s a young and versatile defender; a homegrown player who developed at Leicester City’s academy before moving on to play for Rangers and then for Ajax, as well as Nigeria’s national team.

“Calvin’s been a top target for us, so we’re all delighted that he’s committed for the long term with Fulham, and we’re looking forward to watching him progress. Come on Fulham!”

Calvin Bassey, a Leicester City Academy graduate moved to Glasgow Rangers in the summer of 2020 and was instrumental to Steven Gerard’s side’s Scottish Premier League title as they kept 26 clean sheets – a Scottish Premier League record.

The versatile defender who operates between left center-back and left full-back also played a role in Rangers’ Europa League run the following season where they lost in the final to Eintracht Frankfurt in Seville.

The Nigerian defender is also a regular in the Super Eagles backline having made his debut during the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

Bassey will offer Marco Silva’s side defensive options going into the new football season given his tactical adaptability. The defender is also capable of providing assists as he registered 3 assists in 25 league games for Ajax last season.
