Ola Aina: If we want the fans to be happy with us again then we must win for them
Super Eagles defender Ola Aina reckons the only way the national team can get back into the good graces of Nigerians is to win Saturday’s AFCON qualifying match against the Squirrels of Benin.
In a veiled reference to the last round of qualifiers in which Nigeria was held to two draws by minnows Sierra Leone – including dropping a four-goal lead – the Fulham defender thinks the team can always perform better.
“We have to play, we have to make the fans happy somehow and hopefully that’s how we can win the games and hopefully qualify.”
“My ambition is always to be better and progress, you can learn something new every single day” Aina said. “The big thing for me and most of the players I think is not having to the fans in COVID but nevertheless we have adapted and it is what it is.”
Aina has been capped 17 times for the Super Eagles and played 26games for Fulham in the Premier League with two goals as the Londoners fight to escape the drop.
