After losing to bitter rivals, Manchester United on penalties in the 2008 final in Moscow, Chelsea didn’t get to the Champions League final until 2012.Â
It was termed a “David and Goliath” match-up considering the star-studded Bayern Munich side and a depleted Chelsea side led by interim manager, Roberto Di Matteo.
Chelsea, despite knocking out Barcelona in the semi-final we’re still termed as underdogs going into the final as many beloved that Bayern Munich will tear them apart.
Â
However, fortune and luck we’re on the side of Chelsea on that fateful night in Munich even though the Bavarians surrounded Chelsea’s half for most part of the game just like the Children of Isreal surrounded Jericho.
Didier Drogba, from being a hero within a few minutes turned into a villain as he gave away a penalty that could have sealed the victory for the Bavarians but Petrarch saved Arjen Robben’s penalty.
Drogba eventually wrote Chelsea’s name in gold as scored the winning penalty for the blues – what John Terry could have done on that cold night in Moscow.
