Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu has rejected the deal to return to his former club Genk in a swap deal which will see Ghanaian striker Joseph Paintsil move to Southampton.
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic. Southampton and Genk have already agreed a fee of €10m for the deal to materialise but both players have opted out.
Genk were hoping to bring back Onuach who scored 85 goals in 134 appearances while playing for the to the club as they have not found an adequate replacement for the Nigerian since he left.
On the flip side, Onuachu have struggled to replicate his goal-scoring at Genk at Southampton since he arrived at the Saint Mary’s stadium in January.
The 29-year-old have played 12 times for the Saints since his arrival but have failed to fin the back of the net on any of those occasions.
Onuachu have only played once this season having missed the pre-season due to injury.
