Onuachu: Why I respect Gernot Rohr’s decision about me
Super Eagles striker, Paul Onuachu has dismissed reports that he was disappointed after been placed on standby by the team coach, Gernot Rohr ahead of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin and Lesotho.
The lanky forward, who made a brilliant debut by scoring a stunning volley against Egypt in an international friendly on March 26, 2019, told a Lagos-based radio station that he respected Rohr’s decision to place him on stand-by.
Onuachu assured that he will give his best if given the opportunity to face the Squirrels of Benin and Crocodile of Lesotho.
“I did not feel disappointed, because I already spoke to the Coach, he called me and he told me that I’ve been amazing at my Club and he gave me reasons, which I understand because of course we have a lot of football players all over the world.
“The way he gave me a chance to come to prove myself against Egypt of course other players are opportune to be given the same chance. He explained that to me, which I thought was a good idea.
“So, when he explained I told him I’ll keep working hard and he is the Coach and knows what’s best for the team; it’s your decision and I thoroughly understand why I was not on the first list.”
