Delta Queens forward Opeyemi Ajakaye has expressed delight following her debut for the Super Falcons in the 1-1 draw against Ethiopia on Wednesday.
The CAF Women’s Olympic qualifying tournament game ended all square at the Abebe Bikila Stadium.
Birkie Amare gave Ethiopia the lead in the 6th minute and Rasheedat Ajibade restored parity for the Super Falcons in the 52nd minute of the game.
Ajakaye was substituted in for Asisat Oshoala in the 80th minute which was her first cap for the senior team.
The second leg of the fixture will take place on October 31st at the MKO Abiola Stadium.
The youngster went on her X (formerly known as Twitter) handle to show her joyfulness.
“Happy to have earned my first senior cap for Nigeria @NGSuperFalcons. I appreciate everyone for the support since my youth ranks. Wearing the Nigerian colours will always be cherished in my heart. My future is in God’s hands. Let’s get the job done next week in Abuja,” she wrote.
Ajakaye was a member of the Falconets squad that participated at the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in India.
She was also in Nigeria’s squad at the 2023 WAFU B U-20 competition in Ghana.
She won the competition’s golden boot with six goals overall.
The 2024 Olympics will take place in France from July 26 to August 11 next year.
Africa will have two representatives at the women’s football competition at the 2024 Olympics.
