Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has revealed that he is not bothered about his lack of goals at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Cote D’Ivoire. Instead, he is focused on the team to win another AFCON trophy.
The Napoli striker has scored just one goal in the competition and it came in the one-all draw against Equatorial Guinea in Nigeria’s opening fixture.
While speaking to BeINSport after Super Eagles quarter-final victory over Angola, Osimhen said he has other responsibilities whether he scores or not.
“I have the mentality that if I do not score, I will go back to defending, and if I score a goal, I will also go back to defending this goal,” The striker told BeIN Sports.
“We must continue to believe in ourselves. I am very lucky to be with the Super Eagles.
“It has been my dream since childhood, and we must take advantage of this start to reach the final.”
“I dream of winning the title. The last time was in 2013. I am very happy to win and qualify for the semi-finals,” he said.
“We are all in a positive mental state, and coach Jose Peseiro also has an excellent outlook on the team’s project”
Despite not scoring, Osimhen has been very instrumental to Super Eagles victories at the competition so far.
Osimhen won the penalty that gave the team victory over Cote D’Ivoire in the second group match.
The striker also has an assist to his name which he provided in the second round fixture against Cameroon. The striker found Ademola Lookman in space after he won the ball off a Cameroon defender in the final third.
Nigeria will take on South Africa in the Semi-finals of the competition on Wednesday in Bouaké as they look to get into another AFCON final.
