OTD 25 years ago, Nigeria beat Argentina to win gold in Olympic football event
On the 3rd of August 1996, Nigeria beat Argentina 3-2 to win the gold medal in the football event of the Atalanta Olympic Games.
A statement on the official Instagram account of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) said, “#OTD 25 years ago, Nigeria’s men team defeated @afaseleccion 3-2 to win Gold at the #OlympicGames. A Team of legends 🇳🇬”
For many Nigerians that is the pinnacle for the country’s football history.
