Chelsea were termed the underdogs going into the 2012 Uefa Champions League final not just because they wee playing against a former Champions but on the basis of having a quite depleted squad and technically being the away team.
Thomas Mueller’s goal in the 83rd minute was deemed to be the last straw that eventually broke the Carmel’s back as the Bayern Munich faithfuls were already coasting to victory.
However, Didier Drogba’s 89th minute timely header restored hope for the Blues to make 1-1 in what had been a one sided game from the blast of the whistle.
Chelsea went on to win the Champions League for the first time in their history as they defeated the Bavarians 4-3 on penalties.
