Greek club, PAOK have announced the signing of Super Eagles vice captain, Williams Troost-Ekong. The former Greek champions announced the arrival of the defender on its website as well as its official Twitter page.
Williams Troost-Ekong joins the club on a three-year contract which will see him remain at the club until 2006. His arrival at PAOK brings his three-year stay at Watford to an end.
The 29-year-old defender joined The Hornets in the summer of 2020 and helped them secure a place in the English Premier League. However, his game time dropped significantly in the Premier League as he featured just 17 times.
Despite Watford’s relegation to the Championship that season, Troost-Ekong struggled to nail a starting shirt which saw him moved to Salernitana in the Italian Serie A on loan.
The Super Eagles defender played 9 times for Salernitana and he scored a crucial goal in the club’s 3-2 home victory against his former side Udinese which saw them survive relegation.
With the Africa Cup of Nations about seven months away, Williams Troost-Ekong will look to up his performance at his new club in order to seal a place in Super Eagles squad for the tournament. The defender was an unused substitute in Super Eagles 3-2 victory over Sierra Leone as they seal their qualification for next year’s tournament.
The defender will also look to play in the Europa Conference League in the upcoming season as PAOK are en route to qualifying for the tournament.
