Paul Onuachu ruled out of AFCON 2021

Paul Onuachu of Genk has been ruled out of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, dealing another blow to Nigeria’s aspirations of having a significant impression at the tournament.

In Sunday’s 1-1 home draw against Royal Antwerp, Onuachu suffered a hamstring injury.

Prior to his injury, the former FC Midtylland striker had opened the scoring for Genk in the first half.

After suffering an injury, he was replaced by Ike Ugbo 20 minutes from time.

As a result of the setback, Onuachu is expected to be sidelined for around a month.

Watford midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo has already been ruled out of the AFCON finals in Cameroon, and Victor Osimhen’s participation is still up in the air.

Austine Eguavoen, the interim head coach, is scheduled to unveil his preliminary roster for the competition this week.

The Super Eagles will open their campaign against the Phraohs of Cameroon in Cameroon.
