Rinsola Babajide, Osimhen, Umar, Others On Target In Weekend Goal Rush

Victor Osimhen, among other Nigerian players, did well over the weekend as they found the back of the net for their respective clubs.

Osimhen is positioning himself for a big money move in the summer as he continues to impress for Galatasaray.

Sadiq Umar appears to be enjoying his stay at Valencia, as the lanky striker impressed for the former Spanish champions.

Rinsola Babajide also found the back of the net, while Samuel Chukwueze scored a consolation goal in AC Milan’s 2-1 loss to Lazio at the San Siro in Sunday night’s late kick-off.

This post reviews how these players, among others, fared for their respective club sides over the weekend.

1. Victor Osimhen

Osimhen scored his 22nd season goal on Sunday in Galatasaray’s visit to Kasimpasa on Sunday afternoon. The Super Eagles striker scored twice in the match. Osimhen scored from the penalty spot and bagged the equalizer. Unfortunately, his goals couldn’t secure maximum points for the reigning Turkish, as the encounter ended in a six-goal mouthwatering thriller at the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Stadium. Osimhen is second on the goalscorers chart with two goals behind Istanbul Basaksehir’s Krzysztof Piatek, who has 18 goals.

2. Samuel Chukwueze

The Super Eagles forward is currently struggling to get consistent game time under new manager Sergio Conceicao but proved his importance to the team on Sunday night. Chukwueze came off the bench to grab an equalizer for 10-man Milan in the 84th minute. However, Pedro’s 94th minute penalty sealed victory for the visitors as AC Milan dropped to 9th on the log. Samuel Chukwueze’s goal is his third in 21 league matches this season.

3. Sadiq Umar

The Real Sociedad loanee is having quite a good time in Valencia since he arrived at the club in the January transfer window. Umar scored a brace including a late equalizer, to help Valencia secure a point in the 3-3 draw away at Osasuna on Sunday. The 28-year-old striker has three goals in six La Liga matches for Valencia so far and one in the Copa Del Rey.

4. Calvin Bassey

Bassey scored his second goal against Manchester United as the Cottagers sent the Red Devils out of the FA Cup. Bassey scored the opener via a header just before the halftime break to give Fulham the lead at Old Trafford on Sunday evening. The Super Eagles center-back had an outstanding performance as Fulham edged the defending champions 4-3 on penalties.

5. Rinsola Babajide

Super Falcons wide forward Rinsola Babajide was on target in Costa Adeje Tennerife’s one-all home draw against Badlona Women. Babajide scored the equalizer for Costa Adeje in the 55th minute after the visitors took the lead just before the first half break. The forward has now scored eight goals and three assists in 17 matches.

6. Nathan Tella

The forward has enjoyed a consistent run of games for Xabi Alonso’s side in the past few weeks while delivering decent performances. Nathan Tella scored as Bayer Leverkusen dispatched Eintracht Frankfurt. Tella scored the opener in the 4-1 win to take his tally to four across all competitions.

7. Ibrahim Olawoyin
