UEFA have made a number of new rules for the remainder of this season’s champions league.
The competition was put on hold as a result of the covid-19 virus which has ravaged the globe.
With the draws now fixed for Friday, July 10 2020, these are the five new rules made to the existing regulations:
1. NEW SUBSTITUTION RULES: Just like in the Premier League, Bundesliga, La Liga and other domestic competitions, teams will be allowed to make five substitutions in a game.
The changes however have to be made at only three breaks in play not including half-time, between the end of normal time and extra-time, or half time in extra-time. The number of substitutes available to be introduced has also been increased from seven to 12.
2. NEW PLAYER REGISTRATION: Clubs have also been permitted to sign three new ‘list A’ players, but they must have already been registered and eligible to play for the club at domestic level since 3 February. Also a total of 23 players will be availaible on the match sheet instead of 18.
3. CHANGE IN FORMAT: Quarter finals and semi-finals will now take place as single-leg ties instead of the traditional home and away format.
4. CHANGE OF VENUES: From the quarter-finals all matches will take place at two stadiums in Lisbon, Portugal in a World Cup style knockout.
5. MATCH DATES:
Round of 16 7/8 August
Quarter finals 12-15 August
Semi finals 18/19 August
Final 23 August.
