See why Bruno Fernandes, not Pogba will captain Manchester United against PSG
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solksjaer revealed at his press conference on Monday, October 19th that Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes will be the captain for their Champions League group opener against French Ligue Champions Paris Saint Germain away on Tuesday, October 20th.
The decision was made after it was confirmed that captain H Harry Maguire was ruled out due to injury.
Speaking after the decision by the boss, Bruno said, “I was not expecting this [to be captain vs PSG] – I found out this the same time as you [media]! It is an honour, an important achievement for me. The captain is everyone – everyone needs to help, be a leader in their way.”
Fernandes has 20 goals and assists combined in his first 18 matches in the Premier League since he joined during the winter transfer window.
While some fans asked why Paul Pogba was not selected as a replacement, Bruno was the Boavista Youth Captain from 2010-12, Portugal U21 Captain from 2015-17 and Sporting CP Captain from 2018-20.
