Sporting Lagos Defeat Gombe United In First NPFL Game
Nigerian club Sporting Lagos have defeated Gombe United in their first game in the (NPFL) Nigerian Premier Football League.
Sporting Lagos overcame Gombe United 2-0 on Monday, October 2 at the Onikan Stadium.
It’s the club’s first ever game in the Nigerian top flight league.
Saturday Okon fired his shot wide as he was played through on goal by Chinedu Ufete in the 35th minute.
Rivio Ayemwenre scored the first goal of the encounter in the 42nd minute as he headed in Jonathan Alukwu’s cross to score the club’s first ever goal in the competition.
The Paul Offor led side took the 1-0 advantage into the halftime break.
Rivio got close to scoring again in the 54th minute of the second half but his effort was wide of the post.
Odafe Clement who was substituted in gave Sporting the second goal in the 71st minute.
The Noisy Lagosians are currently second on the NPFL table with three points and a goal difference of plus two after matchday one.
Sporting Lagos was founded in 2022 and they were in the NNL (Nigerian National League) last season and secured a place in NPFL in the 2023/24 season.
