Super Eagles could have won AFCON2000 if …. – Daniel Amokachi FC

Former Super Eagles goal poacher Daniel Amokachi has revealed that the Super Eagles could have the 2000 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations if VAR was in place then.

The former Everton and Club Brugge striker said this concerning Victor Ikpeba’s penalty which was judged not to have crossed the line by the centre referee.

The Indomitable Lions of Cameroun edged the Super Eagles 4-3 on penalties at the National Stadium in Lagos but Victor Ikpeba’s penalty which indeed crossed the line but ruled off remains a subject of discussion to date.

While reacting to whether he would have loved to have VAR during his professional career on his radio programme, “Bull’s Pit” on Sports Radio, Brila Fm, Daniel Amokachi said;

I would have welcomed VAR during my playing days because with VAR we would have won the AFCON 2000.

Daniel Amokachi served as one of the assistant coaches of late Steven Keshi who lifted the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.
