Super Eagles Drop Points Again As 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers Start On A Very Shaky Note

Super of Eagles chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup is already loking bleak after their two openeing matches.

After the disappointing home draw to Lesotho on Thursday, Jose Peseiro’s men put another bizzare performance as they forced Zimbabwe to one-all draw at the Huye Stadium in Butare.

Despite making six changes in his starting line-up, Peseiro’s Super Eagles looked disjointed and bereft of ideas for most part of the first half.

With the Super Eagles lack of coordination obviously to Zimbabwe, the Warriors siezed the opportunity and took the lead in the 26th minute.

Walter Musona powered a thunderous free-kick home from about 30 yards into Francis Uzoho’s net.

The Super Eagles struggled to keep the ball in the first half and continued with the same problem in the second half as they tried to breakdown the defense of the Warriors.

Eventually, Kelechi Iheanacho who came on as a substitute for debutant Nathan Tella, restored parity for the Super Eagles in the 67th minute after Moses Simon found him in space in the box.

The match ended one-all as both sides settled for another point each after their opening two fixtures.

The Super Eagles will take on South Africa June 2024 in their next match at home as they look to get their qualification series back on track.

South Africa currently lead group C with 3 points after a 2-1 home victory over Benin Republic. The Bafana Bafana will take on Rwanda on Monday as they look to secure maximum points again.
