Super Eagles: Eguavoen did better, Rohr did nothing for Nigerian football! - Presidential Aide 2

Femi Adesina, spokesperson to President Muhammadu Buhari, says former Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr contributed nothing to Nigerian soccer and ought to have been fired a long time ago.

Mr Rohr was fired few days to AFCON and replaced with Austine Eguaveon.

“One thing was clear from the way the Super Eagles played their first three matches at AFCON. The German Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr, should have been fired long ago. He contributed nothing to Nigerian soccer,” Mr Adesina said.

Mr Adesina made this statement in an article on his Facebook page on Thursday, saying “The team (Super Eagles) played better under the tutelage of home based Augustine Eguavoen.”

Mr Adesina also knocked those who attributed Super Eagles’ exit from the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON) to President Muhammadu Buhari’s call, describing them as “silly and imbecilic.”

“I have read many silly, idiotic and imbecilic comments, trying to link the loss to the video conference the President had with the players on Sunday morning,” Mr Adesina said.

“If the Super Eagles had gone into the match without encouragement from their President, the same people would have come out to condemn the leader of the country for being taciturn and insensitive.

“Under Muhammadu Buhari as military head of state, we won our first Under 17 global trophy in 1985. In this dispensation, we have won the same trophy twice. So, why do the heathens rage, and the people imagine vain things?,” Mr Adesina said.

Nigerian Super Eagles who were the only team to win all three games and garnered maximum points to qualify for the round of 16 were sent out of the tournament by a 1-0 defeat by Tunisia on Sunday.
