Former Super Eagles forward, Emmanuel Amunike has revealed why he cannot serve under current Super Eagles manager, Gernot Rohr as an assistant coach.
Emmanuel Amunike said although he is yet to be approached by the Nigeria Football Federation to work with the Franco-German but working with him on the sidelines is not possible.
First, he said he has a different football philosophy to that of Gernot Rohr. Second, he will be a threat to him such that it be as though he’s only there to take his job as the coach.
Emmanuel Amunike said this on PUNCH Online interview programme, Kick&Follow.
In his words;
If I come on board, I am a threat to Rohr. If I am here as an assistant, he will lose more concentration. He will think I am there to take his job. We have decided to give him the job, but let us support him. If Nigerians decide that Amunike, we need your service, I will be there. But it is not possible (to be Rohr’s assistant). What will I be saying? He has his philosophy, I have mine.
“Nobody has ever told me to come and be an assistant coach and if it’ll be, it is not possible, it will never be…” His statement read in part.
The Atlanta 1996 Gold medalist led the Flying Eagles to triumph in Chile 2015 and he was also qualified Tanzania to their first Africa Cup of Nations appearance in 39 years last year in Egypt.
However, he left the job afterwards based on mutual consent after the Taifa Stars to progress beyond the group stage.
