The deal is reported to be in the region of £41m which is expected to rise to £45m based on Champions League and Premier League appearances.

The Portuguese forward is expected to be unveiled before next week as he strengthens the attacking threats of the Premier League Champions.

Senegalese forward Ismaila Sarr, according to reports, was the primary target for Jürgen Kloop but Liverpool couldn’t find a compromise with Watford who relegated from the Premier League last season.

• Diogo Jota costs less than the Senegalese International. Watford reportedly wanted an initial fee of £45m which will rise to £50m in performance bonuses – a deal Liverpool considered to be too expensive.
• The Portuguese forward is expected to ease the burden on Liverpool’s main attacking threats – Sadio Mane, Mohammed Salah and Roberto Firmino. The trio contributed 57 goals last season for the side.
• Jürgen Kloop is a huge admirer of the player because if his eye for goal, work rate, tactical adaptability and fluidity across the frontline. He provided 16 goals and six assists for Wolves last season.

The signing of Thiago Alcantara and Diogo Jota who both give them dynamism in their style of play, erases doubts of whether Liverpool can successfully retain their Premier League title to a huge extent.
