Three things we noticed as Manchester United booked their Europa League Quater finals spot after 7-1 aggregate victory over LASK

The Reds were not exactly convincing on the night but Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s men got the job done as they came back from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over Austrian side LASK to round off a comprehensive 7-1 aggregate score triumph.

Jesse Lingard restored parity for the home side in the second half before Anthony Martial scored a late winner in the match.

Here are some of the things we noticed in the game;

  • Lack of Squad Depth: For a large part of the first half, the Red Devils played below par as they featured more or less their second team with the likes of Mata, Daniel James, Scott McTominay, among others who all struggled for the most part of the game. If The Red Devils supposed the second team is still struggling to get past team’s like LASK without the inclusion of first-team players, then it is more or less an indication that some players need to go and quality additions are needed in the squad. Although, Juan Mata redeemed himself with two assists.

  • Manchester United’s defence looks assured with Sergio Romero in goal, Harry Maguire, Brandon Williams and any of Victor Lindelof or Eric Bailly. They conceded for the first time at home this season and they have only conceded four goals so far in the competition.
  • Jesse Lingard still has something to add to the team if given game time. For the first time since 2018, the midfielder scored back to back goals for Manchester United as he was voted Man of the Match tonight. Although he’s not expected to start in the quarter-finals, his current form should convince the manager to give him more minutes when push comes to shove

Manchester United will now take on Copenhagen in the quarter-finals of the competition in a one-legged affair in Germany as they look to win the title for the second time in three years.
