Tottenham 2 Arsenal 1: How many new defenders does Arteta need?

Tottenham Hotspur recorded a 2-1 win against Arsenal in a Premier League encounter played on Sunday, July 12th.

It was the Gunners that struck first in the North London Derby when Alexandre Lacazette latched on to a ball by Granit Xhaka in the 16th minute.

The lead did not last for long as Heung-Min Son equalized for Spurs in the 19th minute as both sides went to the halftime break level.

Tottenham would score the winner in the 81st minute when their captain Toby Alderweireld headed in a corner by Son which they held on to for all three points.

The win means Tottenham still has a slim hope of Champions League football next season and also lifts them above rivals Arsenal.

Analysis

Simply put Arsenal lost the game against Tottenham because f shambolic defending.

However, this is not the first time Arsenal’s defense has let Mikel Arteta down.

The combination of Shkodran Mustafi, David Luiz, and Sead Kolasinac are a disaster waiting to happen and cannot defend if their lives depended on it. Both goals were avoidable but again this Arsenal defense cannot even do the basics of the organization for a free-kick.

Arsenal have dropped 21 points from winning positions in the Premier League this season and without a doubt, it is a question of how many new defenders will Arteta bring to the Emirates Stadium next season.
