The latest development is contained in a report from BBC Sports.

“Nottingham Forest’s Taiwo Awoniyi has woken from an induced coma after undergoing surgery to repair a serious abdominal injury. Having had the first part of the surgery on Monday, he spent Tuesday in an induced coma as medical staff monitored his progress as part of the procedure. Awoniyi underwent the second stage of the operation, including closing the wound, on Wednesday – a process that was successful.”

Awoniyi is expected to fully recover in the post season while Nottingham Forest give their Champions League chase a final push with two matches left.

Meanwhile, Awoniyi’s Super Eagles teammate Ola Aina questioned the lineman for not raising his flag leading up to the incident as Anthony Elanga was clearly offside.

“Anthony was miles offside. The whole world could see and so could I from where I was,” defender Aina told the Mail., external

“You think ‘offside’ straight away. Surely you could just lift the flag up?

“None of this would have happened to ‘T’ if the flag had just gone up, would it?”

It’s horrible seeing someone you are close with go through something like this, but I pray to God everything goes to plan and goes well and that we will be hearing from him soon,” Aina said.
