Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface scored his first goal of the year as Bayer Leverkusen defeated Westham in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League quarter-final at the Bay Arena on Thursday.

The 23-year-old scored with a thumping header from Jonas Hofmann’s brilliant cross from the flank in added time to give Bayer Leverkusen a 2 nil advantage heading into the second leg in London next week.

Boniface came on as a second half substitute and scored his first goal of the year after a three month’s of absence due to a groin injury that saw him missed out of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote D’Ivoire.

The striker, after scoring sat on the advertising board as his teammate celebrated with him as he replicated the celebratory style of Westham’s midfielder, Mohammed Kudus.
