Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has been named in ESPN’s list top 10 strikers in the world for the 2022-2023 football season. The Nigerian striker was named alongside Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, Tottenham’s Harry Kane, former Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema among seven others across Europe.
Osimhen’s third season at Napoli was highly successful with abundance of goals and assists across the league, the UEFA Champions League as well as the Coppa Italia.
The Nigerian striker scored 31 goals in 39 games in all competitions as he helped Napoli secured the Italian Serie A title for the first time in 33 years. Osimhen’s goal in Napoli’s one-all draw away at Udinese secured the the title for the Naples-based club.
The 25-year-old striker on the back of his remarkable season in the league was named the best striker in the league and he was also won the golden boot award for most goals, 26 in the league.
The ESPN list is published at the end of every season to celebrate the top 10 strikers, forwards, midfielders, wingers, defenders and goalkeepers in the previous season as well as coaches. The list of players are picked from top flight leagues across Europe. The first edition was released in 2016.
Victor was named the 4th best striker in the world behind Erling Haaland, Karim Benzema, and Harry Kane. Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski, Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus. Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani, Newcastle Alexander Isak, Juventus Dusan Vlahovic and Lille’s Jonathan David.
