Chelsea were the first English club to officially opt out of the now-defunct European Super League after heavy criticisms as well as protests by the fans outside the stadium yesterday.
The former Premier League Champions confirmed their withdrawal from the Super via a club statement.
“Having joined the group late last week, we have now had time to consider the matter fully and have decided that our continued participation in these plans would not be in the best interests of the Club, our supporters, or the wider football community.”
Following Chelsea’s withdrawal, the other five Premier League clubs ( Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Tottenham) who were also part of the Super League have now withdrawn from the league as well.
It took the involvement of former Chelsea legend, Petr Cech fans who blocked the team bus from entering the stadium premises before the match vs Brighton at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.
However, on hearing their club’s withdrawal from the Super League, the fans couldn’t hide their excitement as they returned to their homes in celebration of their victory – Saving Football.
