Why Alexander Iwobi should leave Everton if he’s to keep his spot in the Super Eagles

Reports didn’t suggest whether Carlo Ancelotti has already written his opinion about the Super Eagles midfielder on the wall but it is more or less clear that the Italian manager doesn’t fancy Alex Iwobi.

The 24-year-old Arsenal Academy graduate was left out of Everton’s matchday squad as the Toffees began their 2020/2021 season with 0-1 win over Tottenham – their 41st attempt at defeating the so-called top six teams away from home.

The arrival of 2014 FIFA World Cup Golden Boot winner James Rodriguez from Real Madrid, experienced Brazilian midfielder Allan and one of the best box-to-box midfielders in the Premier League, Abdoulaye Doucouré, it’s a no-brainer that Iwobi’s time in Everton’s starting XI has come to an end.

Although he was on the sidelines at some point after he arrived for a fee in the region of £40m from Arsenal but Iwobi only had one goal in 25 appearances (19 starts) under three managers last season – Marco Silva, Duncan Ferguson and Carlo Ancelotti

Others have argued that he needs to play as a winger or wide forward but the question is;

Is Alexander Iwobi creative enough to bench Brazilian forward, Richarlison? Because apparently he will be deployed to play from the left.

At best, Iwobi will be a squad player with little or no playing time which might affect his place in the Super Eagles considering the fact that there is now a handful of creative players who might get invites to the team – Chidera Ejuke, Chidebere Eze among others.

So bottom line, he needs to leave. Why?

If he can’t make the first eleven of Everton then he needs to leave for a mid-table club to get playing time.

At the moment, he faces stiff competition in the Super Eagles team. If his playing time dwindles, he might not get the chance to comeback to the squad – not everyone will be as lucky as Kelechi Iheanacho even though the Leicester City forward haven’t played since his return to the team.

He’s still young which means he has at least six years at the top level so he has the chance to revive his game.

Iwobi’s situation is not that of choosing between the deep blue sea and a hard ground, he just needs to leave to save his career.

It’s that simple.
