Why Gundogan deserves to be crowned Premier League Player of the Season

There are just nine rounds of games left to play in the Premier League after this weekend round of fixtures.

With the conclusion of the Premier League coming to a close, Manchester City seems destined to be crowned champions with a 14 point lead over neighbors Manchester United.

The race to avoid relegation and qualification for European places are still very much alive.

However, one question that will be answered very soon is who has been the best player in the Premier League this season.

In this article, we will take a look at the possible candidates for the illustrious award.

1 Harry Kane

If Tottenham Hotspur were better than their current seventh place in the standings Harry Kane would b the clear favorites for the award.

In 25 appearances this season he has contributed 16 goals and 13 assists.

However if not for the immense contribution by Harry Kane, Tottenham would be in a far worse position which makes his case for the award

2 Ikay Gundogan

In 23 appearances  Ikay Gundogan has 12 goals and 2 assists for leaders Manchester City.

Without a doubt he has best the player on the best team this season which is usually the criteria used to select the winner.

Although his stats are not glamourous Gundogan came to life in January and February in which Manchester City made a rapid surge t the top of the table earning himself the player of the month back to back.

His case for the award especially towards the end of the season will be based on his heroics.

3 Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United Bruno Fernandes has been a sensation since he joined Sporting Lisbon last year January.

The Portuguese playmaker this season has a total of 16 goals and 10 assists in 28 appearances.

The knock against the case for Bruno is that he could have done more with just two penalties scored against the top six sides but won the November and December Player of the Month accolades.

However, he can look back at last season when Kevin De Bruyne won the accolade despite being not winning the title.

Conclusion

Overall the winner most likely would be Gundogan who will get votes as no one expected his heroics over the course of the season unlike Kane and Fernandes
