4 reasons why Atletico Madrid will not win La Liga this season

They’re top of the league but due to these four reasons don’t expect Diego Simeone’s men to be crowned La Liga champions at the end of the season…

1) THEY WILL DROP POINTS – Atletico Madrid will eventually drop points like they have already started to. They drew and lost to Levante, dropping five points, in the same week. They aren’t in a good run of form.

It is only going to get worse with Suarez not scoring. He will probably regain his best form if given some rest but Atleti can scarcely afford to rest him now.

Barcelona and Real Madrid may still drop points but not as much as Atletico Madrid.

2) HISTORICAL FACTOR – They weren’t favorites to begin with. There is a reason they’ve only won one Laliga title in the past ten years with Real Madrid and Barcelona sharing the honours between them.

Obviously their quality doesn’t match Barcelona and Real Madrid who won eight Champions league titles between 2006 and 2018.

3) TOUGH UPCOMING FIXTURES – Atletico Madrid face Unai Emery’s Villarreal next which could prove to be a tricky tie before they face Real Madrid which could indeed be the end depending on how it goes. A very tricky Atletic Bilbao side will be next before they even face Sevilla who have won their last six Laliga games (though their last loss was to Atletico Madrid).

How Atleti will come out largely unscathed from these tricky ties remains to be seen.

4) SEASON LIKELY TO GO DOWN TO THE WIRE – The points separating Atletico, Real Madrid, Barcelona and even Sevilla will get closer in the coming weeks. Given Atletico Madrid’s gruelling fixtures including the Madrid derby and the fact that Barcelona will face them in the closing weeks of the season. The title may even be decided on the last day by which time their destiny may be out of Atletico’s hands.
