German Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt have agreed a deal to sign Nigerian midfielder Raphael Onyedika from Club Brugge, with only the final paperwork left to complete the transfer. Fabrizio Romano and other reputable journalists report the Nigerian midfielder is edging closer to the move, with only the final details left before the Bundesliga club officially confirms the signing.
His medical is expected to be completed in the coming days, paving the way for an official club announcement.
Frankfurt and Brugge have been negotiating for weeks, with a fee in the region of €10 million finally sealing the agreement for Adi Hütter’s side. Onyedika’s contract with the Belgian champions expires in 2027, a factor that pushed Brugge toward accepting the offer this summer.
Saudi Arabian clubs made late attempts to hijack the deal, but their interest came too late to change the outcome. Romano has reported that full agreement has been reached despite the Saudi approach.
The 25-year-old Super Eagles midfielder brings the physical presence and ball-winning ability that Frankfurt have lacked in central midfield, filling a void that will widen with Ellyes Skhiri expected to depart.
Frankfurt have already strengthened the position this summer with the signing of Noel Aseko from Bayern Munich, and Onyedika is expected to sit at the base of midfield alongside him.
Onyedika’s departure from Brugge already looks accounted for, as he was missing when the club lost on penalties to Union SG in the Belgian Super Cup on Friday night.
While at Club Brugge, Onyedika won back-to-back league titles as well as a domestic cup and Super Cup, arriving in Frankfurt with a proven winning pedigree.
