2014 FIIFA World Cup winner with Germany André Schürrle has shocked the world by announcing his retirement on Friday, July 17th.
Schürrle’s retirement comes as shock because he is still in the prime of his career at just 29-years-old.
He terminated his contract Borussia Dortmund which still had a year on it.
According an interview with German outlet Der Speigel, Schürrle no longer loves the game of football which has led to his retirement.
He said, “The decision matured over time. The depths became deeper and the highlights less and less,” he said of his decision.
“You always have to play a certain role in order to survive in the business, otherwise you will lose your job and you’ll not get a new one.”
He then took to his official Instagram account to post a message to confirm his retirement from the game.
In the message, he said, “Hi all,
“I want to let you know that I’m stepping away from playing professional football !!
On behalf of myself and my family I want to thank everybody who was a part of these phenomenal years! The support and love you shared with me was unbelievable and more I could have ever asked for!
Now I’m ready and open for all the beautiful possibilities that are coming towards me 😍
André.”
Schürrle is known for his time in the Premier League with Chelsea bt he also played for Mainz 05, Bayer Leverkusen, VfL Wolfsburg, Borussia Dortmund, Fulham and Spartak Moscow
