Former Barcelona player and assistant manager, Ronald Koeman has been chosen to be the new manager of the club according to reports.
This comes after the sack, however unofficial of Quirqe Sentien. Although a club statement on the former Real Betis manager is expected to be released by the club today.
Ronald Koeman played for the Catalan giants between 1989 and 1995 under Dutch manager Johan Cruyff and played a vital role in Barcelona’s domestic and continental triumph between that period as he scored the only goal in 1992 European Cup final in Barcelona’s 1-0 victory over Sampdoria.
On his return to Barcelona, he served as an assistant coach to Luis Van Gaal.
Koeman became the first player in history to score in two consecutive European competition final after he scored the consolation goal in Barcelona’s 2-1 loss to Manchester United in the European Cup Winners’ Cup final in 1991 as well as the 1992 European Cup final.
Ronald Koeman has previously coached Southampton, Everton, PSV, Ajax Amsterdam among a long list of other clubs before recent appointment as coach of the Dutch National team.
His managerial style is likened to that of Johan Cryuff and Luis Van Gaal as he favours attacking football via the 433 set up but also with some touch of pragmatism.
