Who is Jean Hatchet?
Jean Hatchet is a South Yorkshire native. She is a feminist activist and author who campaigns against male violence against women. After experiencing domestic abuse in a previous relationship, Jean has dedicated her life to educating other abused women about what is happening to them and raising funds to donate to women’s services that can assist them.
She raises funds for Nia, which provides services to some of the most susceptible women who are victims or survivors of sexual and domestic abuse.
Jean Hatchet is adamant about giving women access to single-sex, women-only, trauma-informed services for safety and recovery from male violence. Jean is a writer who is currently working on a novel about two women at the birth of the radical feminist movement in the United Kingdom. Her work has appeared in The Critic, New Statesman, The Guardian, and The Huffington Post.
She is the founder of the ‘Ride For Murdered Women’ project, which honors the lives of women murdered by men they knew. Jean frequently appears on national radio and television to discuss a variety of feminist issues.

Jean Hatchet has a history of organizing successful campaigns to raise awareness about men’s violence against women. She successfully campaigned to keep Ched Evans from returning to his former club Sheffield United while he was still a convicted rapist. Since then, she has spoken out against aggressive trans activism’s ongoing assault on women’s rights under the Equality Act 2010. Jean has raised significant funds for a number of women’s sector organizations combating men’s violence against women, including the fantastic Nia.
Activism: Ride for murdered Women
Jean Hatchet began riding her bike in April 2017 to honor the lives of every woman murdered by a male current or former partner or family member. She dedicates each ride to a specific woman murdered by a man, remembering and celebrating her life as she rides.
This is to pay tribute to the beautiful woman who died as a result of a man’s fatal violence and to raise awareness about how she died. Jean has ridden her bike for more than 330 women and over 9000 miles. She now organizes an annual bike ride, inviting women from all over the world to join her in honoring the lives of all the women murdered by men they knew.
She has so far raised more than £46,000 for women’s refuges and other services that assist women fleeing domestic violence. Despite having advanced ovarian cancer, Jean rides as much as she can.
